About ALR
In Advanced Legal Research, students will learn principles, resources, and methods of legal research. By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze a legal problem or task and implement a research strategy to locate legal authority to provide a suitable solution. Building upon the introduction to legal research offered in legal writing, the course will explore advanced research situations and develop skill in new content areas such as administrative law research and performing a federal legislative history. It will also explore such new topics as researching for litigation and teach transactional legal research topics and tools including researching corporations, records, people, and entities. Additionally, the course will introduce new topic areas including researching international and foreign law, Native Peoples law, and Oklahoma law. The course will teach online resources, especially focusing on learning advanced research techniques to use online research services effectively and efficiently. Students will develop these skills through assignments and a group project.
