About Us

The Oklahoma Transportation Library (OTL) is the main storehouse for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and is located on the University of Oklahoma (OU campus). We house approximately 18,000 transportation-related items, copyright permitting. These items cover a wide variety of topics, such as asphalt, concrete, vehicles, road and bridge design, and much more.

Many items have been digitized, that is, they are available in PDF format. However, if you find an item that does not have a digital copy, please contact us at odot-library@ou.edu and we will move it to the top of our scanning queue.

FAQs

  • Where is OTL located?
    • We are located on the OU Norman campus in the Carson Engineering Center, room 213 (second floor).
  • When are you open?
    • We are open Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Contact information
    • You can call us at 405-325-5960 or email us at odot-library@ou.edu.
  • What is a transportation library?
    • A transportation library is a library that provides information and resources on all things transportation-related, such as research, policies, data, and more. We hold items about asphalt, concrete, bridges, vehicles, AI, and more. The research in these libraries is often used by those studying transportation from academia or the public sector (engineers, state departments of transportation, or other transportation-related entity).
  • What kind of items do you have?
    • We are the primary repository for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. We hold research reports, academic articles, magazines, soil surveys, conference proceedings, and more. Some items in our collection date back to the late 1800s.
  • How do I check out books?
    • Please visit our catalog and set up a library account. From there, you may search the catalog and place a hold on what you want, or simply stop by the library during our business hours. For ODOT or OU Norman or HSC employees, we will happily deliver your items to your office.
  • How long do I have books for?
    • Each item can be checked out for an initial period of 30 days, with six renewals available. Renewals are contingent on item demand and may be denied if necessary. As we are funded by ODOT, priority will be given to ODOT employees. Therefore, items checked out to non-ODOT employees may be recalled early if needed by an ODOT employee.
  • Can I return books to Bizzell?
    • No. Our collection is separate from Bizzell and all checked out items must come back to OTL. Failure to do so may result in books being lost and you being held responsible for replacement costs.
  • Are you open to the public?
    • Yes! Feel free to contact us using the above information and we will be happy to assist you with your request. You may also stop by during our business hours. If you are an ODOT employee, please contact us for assistance with on-campus parking.
  • Is this library free to use?
    • Library items are free to check out and computers are free to use. We also offer limited printing, scanning, and binding for patrons.
