The e-CFR. as noted on the website, is "a currently updated version" of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). It is NOT an "official legal edition" of the CFR. (The e-CFR is currently in beta.)

- Code of Federal RegulationsThe Code of Federal Regulations is the codification of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government.
A full set of the CFR consists of approximately 200 volumes. The approximately 200 CFR volumes are revised at least once a year on a quarterly basis as follows:
Titles 1 -- 16 as of January 1
Titles 17 -- 27 as of April 1
Titles 28 -- 41 as of July 1
Titles 42 -- 50 as of October 1
Regulations.gov
Regulations.gov is an electronic source providing access to make or view comments. In addition, Regulations.gov provides access to information regarding the status of changes to regulations. A new beta version of regulations.gov is available at https://beta.regulations.gov/.
CFR on GovInfo
GovInfo provides access to the CFR (1996-2020). Govinfo also provides access to Finding Aids, including the CFR Index, which can be useful in locating the applicable regulations.
