Many of these sites are supported by the Japanese government or other public research institutions. Still, you should always verify the source of any information you find. Denshi JishoThis free online dictionary is updated frequently with new slang, cultural references, and abbreviations. You can search in English and Japanese (kanji or romaji) by typing, handwriting, speech, or radicals. Examples are provided for each word and labels indicate how common the word's usage is.

NHK Broadcasting Culture Research InstituteNHK regularly conducts public opinion polls to support programming and discussions about the state of the media. The results of these polls are made public and are accessible here in Japanese. Shortened synopses of these results are made available in English.

J-STAGEThis open access database includes journal articles, conference proceedings, technical and research reports, and magazine articles about a variety of topics, including the sciences, engineering and technology, interdisciplinary disciplines such as environmental studies, and the humanities and social sciences.
