Digital Scholarship

This guide will provide a jumping off point for key digital scholarship concepts, as well as point to resources both on and off campus for your DS endeavors.

Coding/Programming

For the brave who wish to strengthen their technical skills, but aren't sure of where to start, here are a list of coding languages you can learn along with some examples of what you can do with them. 

Python
A general-purpose, open-source programming language that places an emphasis upon code readability. Some useful Python libraries include:

  • Beautiful Soup: Python library for pulling specific pieces of data out of HTML and XML files. 
  • Pandas: Python library for data analysis and data structure formation. 

R
Another open source programming language. R was originally developed for statistics but also works well for graphics and text mining. 

HTML
HTML is a front-end programming language that is the standard markup language for creating Web pages.

CSS
CSS is a front-end language we use to style a Web page.
