The Library of Congress uses the system below to Romanize the Cyrillic alphabet. Note that in your searches you should omit the two dots over the “e.”

For searching for Russian content on the Internet, try the Russian version of Google, google.ru, and Yandex. Since Russia doesn't have the same copyright restrictions as the U.S. you may find more freely-available content than you would expect. 

Library of Congress Subject Headings

OU Libraries uses the Library of Congress classification system for almost all of its holdings. When you know Library of Congress subject headings you can perform very precise searches in our catalog and other databases. Some subject headings that may be useful to students of literature and language include:

[adjectival country name] literature--history and criticism (e.g., Russian literature--history and criticism produces results about the work of unspecified Russian authors).

[adjectival country name] [literary form]--history and criticism (e.g., Russian poetry--history and criticism produces results about the fiction of unspecified Russian poets).

[adjectival country name] [literary form]--[century] (e.g., Russian fiction--20th century produces results about 20th century Russian fiction, and may also produce anthologies and works by individual authors).

[author name]--criticism and interpretation (e.g., Gogol--criticism and interpretation produces results about Gogol's work).

[author name]--influence (e.g., Tolstoy--influence produces results about Tolstoy's influence on authors, playwrights, artists, etc.).

Russian language--history

Russian language--orthography and spelling

Russian language--dialects

Note that you do not have to use diacriticals when entering your search terms, and results could be in any language, even when you are searching in English.
