ARCHIVED PROJECT: ELSEVIER JOURNALS
The Libraries will reduce its budget through June 2020 under a university administration-mandated permanent budget reduction. The budget reduction will affect multiple aspects of the Libraries' operations during the next two years, including collections.
The first step the Libraries will take to reduce its collections budget is not renewing a journal agreement with Elsevier, scheduled to end December 31, 2018. The agreement provides access to nearly all Elsevier journals but requires maintaining a specific monetary commitment which cannot be sustained because of the budget reduction mandate. Due to the short timeframe under which the Libraries is working, journal title commitments based on usage and alternative electronic availability have been identified and will go into effect January 1, 2019. In 2019 we will subscribe to the journals provided in the "Elsevier retained journal titles" file available below. We will work with departments upon request to make any necessary changes to our Elsevier subscriptions, within the limitations of our budget, to go into effect in 2020. Any titles to which we do not maintain a subscription will be accessible through interlibrary loan; the average turnaround time for journal article requests is currently 36 hours.
An Excel file of journal titles we will retain is provided below. The second Excel file lists journal titles to which the Elsevier agreement has provided access, which will continue until December 2018.
