Databases Covering the Middle East and North Africa
Please note that the library does not own all the journals and other materials cited in databases on this page. Many databases provide a "Check for Full Text Link," that will help you see if full text is available in another database and, if not, will allow you to request the material via interlibrary loan. When the Check for Full Text link is not available, search for the title of the journal in the Local Catalog. (See this page for instructions.)
- AfricaBibSearch for articles about all of Africa or choose a region. NOTE: "Check for Full Text" is not available in this database; you must search the Local Catalog for the title of the journal to see if we own it.
- Index Islamicus (Proquest)Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world, all time periods. References to or full text of journal articles, books, book reviews, conference proceedings.
- Oxford Bibliographies Online, Islamic Studies(Click "browse by subject" to see Islamic Studies). OBO is a research guide to the most significant sources in the subject area.
- RAMBI: Index of Articles on Jewish Studies (National Library of Israel)Academic articles and books covering all fields of Jewish studies as well as the study of Eretz Israel and the State of Israel. NOTE: "Check for Full Text" is not available in this database; you must search the Local Catalog for the title of the journal to see if we own it.
Tip!
Most database providers have a feature allowing you to create an account with them. The benefits of creating these accounts include the ability to
- save your research into folders,
- save and edit past searches, and
- receive notification when new articles matching your search terms are added to the database index.
EBSCO, ProQuest, and JSTOR are some of the providers you will frequently encounter in your research. As long as you have accessed a database from on campus or using your 4x4, the company will recognize you as an authenticated OU user, and registering for an account is just a matter of selecting a username and password.
