Service-Learning Internships

Students also have the option to complete a Service-Learning Internship.  When successfully completed, students earn a SERV designation on their transcript which is a merit recognized by many employers.  By definition, Service-Learning “incorporates community work into the curriculum, giving students real-world learning experiences that enhance their academic learning while providing a tangible benefit for the community,” (Campus Compact) and “a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities” (Learn and Serve Clearinghouse, 2010).

With this definition in mind, there are many internship opportunities that can be a service-learning experience.  The syllabus linked below provides a detailed description about service-learning internships and the associated requirements.
